Vassi Koutsaftis’ Top Five Cultural Destinations: Tibet

Vassi Koutsaftis, a legendary guide who has been leading GeoEx tours for 29 years, was just named one of the best guides in the world by Outside magazine. The publication chose him as Best Cultural Guide in its 2014 Travel Awards, announced in the April issue. To celebrate, we asked Vassi to tell us his five favorite cultural destinations. Tibet

I love Tibet because of the open spaces, high mountains, clear air, beautiful sky and the opportunity to “get away” – to get lost on the plateau and be with the nomads and their animals as they walk across these clear, open expanses. When I am with these people, absorbing their life, I feel touched by a spirit of liberation.
